Garanti Bank is present in Romania since 1998 and until 2007 offered banking services for Romanian and international companies. Since 2007, Garanti Bank developed products and services for individuals and SMEs, extending at the same time its network of agencies, ATMs and POS terminals.
Garanti Bank launched innovative products and services among which Bonus Card - the first multi-branded chip card in Romania, contactless payment tools that use MasterCard PayPass technology, Bonus Debit Card - the debit card that offers bonus for purchases made at merchants, Bonus Card with mirror - a credit card offering to ladies a mirror as a beauty accesory, WWF Bonus Card - the first eco-affinity credit card on the banking market in Romania, multifunctional ATMs allowing the invoice payment with cash, without using the card.
Garanti Bank was designated "The best consumer internet banking in Romania" in 2008 and 2009, within the annual award ceremony organized by the renown magazine Global Finance. The internet banking service was also awarded by e-Finance magazine in 2010 for "The highest growth rate of users’ number in 2009 as compared to 2008". In addition, Garanti Bank was awarded in October 2010, within Cards Forum, the distinction "The most active bank on the cards market in Romania" for the excellent results of its cards activity registered in the first semester of 2010. The excellent results obtained byBonus Card, the credit card issued by Garanti Bank, were awarded twice, within e-Finance and No-Cash Awards Galas, organized in March 2010.
Also in 2011 Garanti Bank was awarded by the most important organizations and local publications for its products and services: No-Cash designated Garanti Bank as the winner of “The best promotion” category - for Bonus Card campaigns, and also for ““Best banking product of the year for physicians” – for CrediMed product”. Our Bonus Card product was awarded also byBusiness Arena magazine, being considered as “The most innovative banking product”.
Within e-Finance Award Gala, Garanti Bank was awarded at “e-Payments” category for the real-time payment system developed at the end of last year, system implemented on the ATMs within Garanti Bank network and Vodafone shops, allowing the instant transactions: invoice payment and top-up for Vodafone. Also in 2011, within “Top Bankers” Gala organized by Finmedia, we were awarded as ”The most dynamic bank, with the most spectacular rise in the top of banks in 2010”.
Garanti Online was awarded “The Best Bill Payment & Presentment” in Central and Eastern Europe within the annual award ceremony organized by the renowned magazine Global Finance.
In 2012 Garanti Bank continued its growth, being recognized on the market for its innovation and dynamism, two fundamental elements which differentiate the Bank from the other financial institutions, and made it possible to receive several important awards: “The highest growth rate in transactions number, for Internet Banking”- award granted by eFinace, “Award for complexity and innovation in the Romanian market, for Bonus Card” - award granted by Finmedia, “The most dynamic systemic growth of assets and own funds: Best Bank” - award granted by Finmedia, “The Best Banking Strategy” - award granted by Business Arena and “Retail Bank of the Year” - award granted by Piata Financiara.
The excellent performance of Garanti Bank in 2012 is also reflected in the ratings received from the most important financial institution in the world: the bank was assigned by Fitch Ratings a long-term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) of "BBB -" with a stable perspective. The upgrade of Garanti Bank Romania rating follows the one of Turkiye Garanti Bankasi, which reached the Country Ceiling, “BBB”.
The rating upgrade reflects the improved ability of the shareholder Turkiye Garanti Bankasi (TGB) to provide support to Garanti Bank Romania in case of need. Fitch believes Garanti Romania is strategically important to TGB and the agency, therefore, factors a high probability of parent support into its ratings.
